2008 台北國際爵士音樂節 — 仲夏爵士悠遊

還記得每年夏夜在大安森林公園舉辦的爵士星空音樂會嗎？今年「 2008 台北國際爵士音樂節」的兩場「爵士星空音樂會」轉移陣地到 228 和平公園露天音樂台舉行！ 7 月 25 、 26 日晚間 7 點 30 分，來自美國、比利時、荷蘭及臺灣的 11 位國際爵士名家與新銳爵士團體組合將為您的爵士夏天帶來更暢快的全新體驗！
由台北市政府文化局與台北市國際爵士樂教育推廣協會共同主辦的「 2008 台北國際爵士音樂節」，不僅邀集國內外優秀爵士樂名家、團體共襄盛舉，更整合市府所屬各場館相關活動，結合藝術導覽、城市觀光、文化交流，自 6 月 21 日起率先由國內新銳爵士團體於每週六陸續在北投溫泉博物館、當代藝術館、自來水園區、中山堂廣場、台北市立美術館等地展開「仲夏爵士悠遊音樂會」，場場皆吸引人潮前往聆賞，深獲市民好評，而活動高潮即將在 7 月底由 11 位國際級爵士名家接手聯演！
來自世界各地的爵士樂大師們將於 7 月 25 日（週五）及 26 日（週六）晚間 7:30 連續兩晚於 228 和平公園露天音樂台引爆爵士熱力！音樂節新面孔為首度邀請來台的美國長號大師史帝夫戴維斯及荷蘭女歌手丹妮絲珍納，史帝夫戴維斯活躍於美國東岸及世界爵士樂壇，是著名的爵士樂大師奇克柯利亞與傑基麥克林等人競相合作對象；丹妮絲珍納以富磁性與熱情的迷人嗓音成為第一位由知名爵士唱片公司 Blue Note 簽約的荷蘭女歌手；去年甫於大安森林公園登場即一鳴驚人的小號手薩絲琪亞拉若，今年又將以精湛的演出掀起一波爵士狂潮！
其他幾位爵士樂名家，如美國的資深爵士前輩薩克斯風與豎笛手 — 大衛梅奧尼與約翰若寇、比利時的黃金三角 — 吉他手法比安底格里斯、貝斯手巴特迪諾夫、鼓手席爾利顧德曼、荷蘭鋼琴家彼得凡馬勒等皆是音樂節樂迷們熟悉的老臉孔，也都對台灣的人事物留下深刻印象，如美國豎笛大師約翰若寇最欲罷不能的是一盤又一盤的炒米粉；來自啤酒王國比利時的貝斯手巴特迪諾夫，現在已然 “ 倒戈 ” 愛上 Taiwan Beer ；吉他手法比安底格里斯更深受台灣觀眾的熱情感動，寫下了《大安藍調》（ 2007 年於大安森林公園演出），並收錄在他的國際發行新專輯當中，他們將與台灣的爵士小提琴家謝啟彬與鋼琴家張凱雅聯手呈現更多精彩的即興演出！

Do you still remember the Taipei Jazz Summer Stage: International Masters Rendezvous last year at the Da-Ann Forest Park ? This year, there are going to be two Taipei Jazz Summer Stages: International Masters Rendezvous of 2008 Taipei International Jazz Festival at the auditorium of 228 Peace Park. On July 25 and 26, eleven international jazz masters from the U.S.A., Belgium, Netherlands and Taiwan will bring you a whole new jazz experience in this summer!
Department of Culture Affairs of Taipei City Government and Taipei International Jazz Education & Promotion Association organize the ” 2008 Taipei International Jazz Festival”. Not only outstanding jazz players or groups in Taiwan and overseas have joined together but also integrate few locations and places in Taipei city, such as Peitou Hot Spring Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, Taipei Water Park, Taipei Zhongshan Hall, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, combining art guiding, city tourism, and cultural interaction. Since June 21 st , “Midsummer Jazz Promenade”had been to Peitou Hot Spring Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, Taipei Water Park, Taipei Zhongshan Hall, Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Each of nights had been a massive show, and impressed by citizens. However, the climax of 2008 Taipei International Jazz Festival will be performed by 11 international acclaimed Jazz masters in the end of July!
The Jazz masters from overseas are going to present you two fantastic jazz nights continuously on July 25 th and 26 th in the evening at 7:30 at the auditorium of 228 Peace Park. Steve Davis is the first-timer of the event and has cooperated with various jazz masters, such as Chick Corea and Jackie McLean. Denise Jannah is the first Dutch vocalist joined the Blue Note records for her attractive and passionate voice. Last year, there was an amazing jazz festival at Da-Ann Forest Park. Trumpeter Saskia Laroo will bring another jazz highlight as previous year.
Two saxophonist/clarinetist David Milne and John Ruocco always give jazz fans an unforgettable memory of great music. The “Belgian Triangle”– guitarist Fabien Degryse, bassist Bart De Nolf, drummer Thierry Gutmann and latin pianist Peter Van Marle are well-known in Taiwan.
They also have massive impression on Taiwan as well. For instance, clarinetist John Ruocco cannot resist fried noodles. Bassist Bart De Nolf has fallen in love with Taiwan beers instead of the beers from his own country, Belgium. Guitarist Fabien Degryse loves the audience in Taiwan more because of the passion from the people. Moreover, he has written down the “Da-Ann Blues”(performed at the Da-Ann Park in 2007) and has it in his new album released to the world. With two musicians from Taiwan – Chi-pin Hsieh and Kai-ya Chang, they will bring more vivid improvisation chapters as well!!

音樂節第一波熱潮，將從6月21日起展開一連串「仲夏爵士悠遊」主題式音樂會！由本地爵士樂優秀團體與從海外歸國之爵士樂明日之星共同演出。今年活動與往年最大不同，在於5場音樂會共計10組演出團體將與市府所屬各場館之活動密切結合，如6月21日音樂會為北投溫泉博物館「仲夏樂之夢」揭開序幕、6月28
日音樂會結合當代藝術館之「城市行動藝術節」開展、7月5日音樂會結合自來水園區一年一度之「親水夏日饗宴」開幕，當天傍晚五點起免費開放民眾入園聆賞音樂、7月19日搭配北美館「樂夜饗宴」活動等等，輕鬆搭乘捷運悠遊所有演出場地，讓台北市民們多面向體驗藝文生活！
來自世界各地的爵士樂大師們將於7月25日週五晚間7:30開始，於228和平紀念公園露天音樂台再度引爆熱力爵士的煙火！連續四年大安森林公園露天音樂台的演出建立起台北市「夏夜戶外爵士饗宴」的傳統 ，本年度將加演一場，於週末連續兩晚舉辦大型戶外爵士音樂會，邀演11位陣容堅強的國際爵士樂名家，囊括美國、荷蘭、比利時、台灣的眾家高手齊聚一堂，聯手帶來兩場精心規劃的節目演出。

2008 Taipei International Jazz Festival
Series concerts kick off at late June, presenting delicate jazz music
Do you feel like enjoying high quality jazz music without traveling far away? Appreciate the fascinating jazz music in Taipei city by MRT!! From 6/21 to 7/26, the Taipei International Jazz Festival series outdoor concerts will give you a great experience of life full of fantastic jazz music!
Taipei International Jazz Education & Promotion Association. During the festival, many jazz masters are invited to join the events. “The jazz concerts in the park” will definitely bring the citizens in Taipei city a jazzy summer. Jazz fans can lie down on the green grass and enjoy the high quality jazz music at the same time!
The first part of the festival - “Midsummer Jazz Promenade” will kick off on 6/21! Various local jazz music groups and future stars studying abroad will join the events. 5 outdoor high profile concerts will be offered in various communities of Taipei City. At first, the concert along with the “Midsummer Music's Dream” activity held at Peitou Hot Spring Museum on 6/21 is the beginning of the events. The concert along with “Midsummer Music's Dream” at Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei on 6/28 continues the second part of the event. The third concert along with the “The summer's festival of Water affinity” at Water Park brings you a really “cool” jazz. And the last concert at Taipei Fine Art Museum comes along with “The feast of music's night” event. The citizens can take the MRT to these places to appreciate the diversity of music and arts at the same time.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007, the concerts held in Da-Ann Forest Park made the Jazz Festival an important annual event. This year, two “International masters rendezvous” concerts are held on two nights with different repertoires at the auditorium of 228 Peace Park. 11 jazz masters from U.S.A, Netherlands, Belgium and Taiwan unit together again to bring a diverse range of sounds and styles of jazz music!

Additional Act of the Season – Jazz in Live Houses of Taipei City!
2008 Taipei International Jazz Festival is one of the activities of 2008 Taipei International Jazz Season. In addition to the educational events such as “Introduction to jazz: A course of lectures” and “2008 Taipei International Summer Jazz Academy”, the organizer further presents “TISJA young talents jazz concert series” in various live houses in Taipei to give the jazz fans a direction to find fantastic live concerts in places like Blue Note Cafe, Riverside Music Cafe, Nanhai Gallery, Witch House, Franz and Friends and Sappho. Young jazz musicians gather together and invite the jazz fans to sense their passion to the jazz music. The highly recommended program is the “Jazz Piano Duet ” held at Recital Hall of Shih Chien University on 7/2. The well-known jazz pianist Kai-ya Chang with 3 sensations together will interpret interesting repertoires in this piano duet concert, which is the first piano duet concert in Taiwan. 爵士多面向學習 邀您參與
隨著炎炎夏季的到來，台灣本地的爵士熱潮又將展開，而今年度擴大舉辦的「2008仲夏爵士悠遊—台北國際爵士樂教育推廣季」，其中已成功舉辦兩年的「台北市民爵士樂欣賞講堂」，今年更名為「TIJEPA大眾爵士樂欣賞講堂」， 依舊以十堂豐富精彩的循序漸進課程，來帶領愛樂大眾進入爵士樂的大千世界； 而堂堂邁向第五屆的「TISJA台北國際爵士音樂營」，則邀請更多國際爵士名家來台，並廣邀亞洲地區青年爵士樂手之熱烈參與，讓台灣的學子與國際爵士樂環境接軌，培養更多專業表演人才。
由國內知名爵士樂手與教師「啟彬與凱雅」所策劃參與的「TIJEPA大眾爵士樂欣賞講堂」，是台灣第一個為愛樂大眾所特別規劃設計的長期性爵士樂入門欣賞課程，歷時十堂20小時的完整課程，一路由爵士樂起源介紹到當代爵士樂，橫跨搖擺、咆勃、酷派、拉丁、融合爵士等，以年代切入探討各樂風之相互鏈結及正確認知，並加上對於爵士樂形式、樂器、編制、即興、樂手、歌手等的綜觀導覽，聽眾在聆聽的同時，也能藉由更多元素的整合而聽出更多樂趣。值得一提的是謝啟彬與張凱雅以本身為爵士樂手的角度出發介紹爵士樂，卻又能兼顧到一般愛樂者對爵士樂的距離感與似是而非的疑惑，往往能輕鬆風趣地撥開許多對爵士樂認知的迷霧，卻又不失專業佐證，也得到過往參與兩位各地講座或音樂會的聽眾之正面肯定。
主辦單位台北市國際爵士樂教育推廣協會於舉辦爵士推廣教育活動時秉持的宗旨，也在這系列講堂中展露無遺，除了兩位講師現身說法，以豐富的內容親身互動示範，並邀請各類樂器樂手、男女歌手或組合至講堂中示範演出，聽眾等於現場聆賞互動爵士樂活教材，再由專業講師帶領導引解析，並配合相關影音資料的播放，讓每堂課都是收穫滿滿的音樂饗宴，十堂講堂結束後聆賞功力也將大大提
升。
而針對想更進一步，親身體驗爵士樂演奏演唱的樂手們，愈來愈邁向國際化的「2008第五屆台北國際爵士音樂營」將是您最好的選擇！五年以來，「TISJA台北國際爵士音樂營」已經從一個大學的暑期營隊，發展成為亞洲地區年輕學子的嚮往搖籃，其原因在於堅強的國際師資陣容以及豐富多元的課程內容，加上給予爵士學子真正需要的資訊與環境等，皆在主辦單位的理念堅持下，逐步落實並開花結果。每年七月最後一週，來自歐洲、美國及台灣的國際爵士名家，與台灣各地經由甄選參與的爵士新秀及來自鄰近國家如日本、香港、馬來西亞與韓國等國際青年爵士樂手，在台北實踐大學音樂系共聚一堂，進行為期一週的營隊課程，與國際爵士大師近身學習，24小時體驗爵士樂！
今年度除了擴大參與，歡迎更多基礎程度樂手加入TISJA陣容外，邀請的國際名家皆來頭不小，人數也由九位增為十一位，其中來自美國傑基麥克林爵士音樂學院的世界知名長號手史帝夫戴維斯，為爵士鋼琴大師奇克科利亞的專屬合作樂手，此番特別邀請他來台，希望能激發國內銅管學子對於爵士樂的興趣；另外荷 蘭籍知名女性小號手薩絲琪亞拉若再次應允來台，眾人也對她熱力十足的演奏風格感到期待！薩克斯風與木管方面，將由世界知名爵士豎笛大師暨教育家約翰若寇，協同美國伊士曼音樂學院博士、威斯康辛大學河瀑分校音樂系系主任大衛梅奧尼一起分組執教。來自荷蘭，為第一位Blue Note唱片公司簽約的荷蘭女歌手丹妮絲珍納，也將帶來更多頗負新意的演唱經驗分享。而三位堅實的比利時布魯塞爾皇家音樂院爵士音樂系教授與知名樂手，包括吉他手法比安底格里斯、貝斯手巴特迪諾夫、鼓手席爾利顧特曼等，也將持續與本地年輕樂手交流。拉丁音樂的特別專題，也將由拉丁專家彼得凡馬勒呈現多年獨到心得。而台灣的張凱雅與謝啟彬兩人，則將負責爵士鋼琴、絃樂、樂團合奏與相關課程等傳授與整合。如此堅強而完整的師資陣容與活動規模，已經於亞洲地區建立良好聲譽，希望台灣本地的學子，把握機會不要錯過！

TIJEPA – Introduction to Jazz：A course of lectures

Joining the interesting jazz-learning activities!
The summer is about to come, and the hot season of the jazz scene comes as well. This year, 2008 Taipei International Jazz season brings the well-claimed “Introduction to Jazz：A course of lectures” first, which comprises ten lectures to lead the music-lovers into the fruitful world of jazz. The lectures will be followed by the 5th Taipei international summer jazz academy, also known as TISJA 2008, more international jazz masters and Asia young musicians will
participate in the academy, bringing new stimulus to young jazz musicians in Taiwan.
“Introduction to Jazz：A course of lectures” is the first long term jazz appreciation lectures designed by famous Taiwanese jazz musicians Chipin & Kaiya. A complete 10 lectures summing up for 20 hours take the music-lovers to explore the jazz world from the origin of jazz to the vivid modern jazz and various styles comprising swing, bebop, cool, Latin and fusion. The lectures further guide the music-lovers to appreciate jazz song forms, instruments, orchestrations, improvisations and musicians. As jazz musicians themselves, Chi-pin Hsieh and Kai-ya Chang provide not only a professional view of jazz music, but also an interesting way to appreciate the beauty of jazz.
Besides the two professional lecturers, Taipei international jazz education and promotion association (TIJEPA), the organizer of “Introduction to Jazz：A course of lectures”, also invite different musicians, male and female singers to give live demonstrations during the lectures. Music-lovers can understand what happens during the performance of the music through the live demonstrations and get a clearer picture of jazz by listening and watching at the same time.
For the musicians who want to learn more, 2008 Taipei international summer jazz academy (TISJA) is your best choice! Taken place for 5 years, TISJA becomes an important jazz education event in Asia. Integrated with the international jazz faculties, various kinds of ensembles and well-organized lessons, all of these features of TISJA attract the young musicians from different places in ASIA. Each year, In the last week of July, these international jazz masters and young sensations from Europe, USA, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea & Australia gather together in Shih-Chien University in Taipei to join the academy for one week and experience jazz for 24 hours each day!
Aside from an expecting larger scale of the academy for more basic students to join, the international jazz masters participated in the academy also increase to 11 well-known jazz musicians. Steve Davis, the faculty of Hartt School's Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz and the member of Chick Corea's Origin Band, comes to join for the first time. Famous female trumpeter Saskia Laroo joins the academy for the second time and is ready to bring more powerful playing. John Ruocco, a well-acclaimed saxophonist and clarinetist, and David Milne, the chair of the Music Department of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, together provide their experience on woodwinds performance. Noted jazz singer & recording artist Denise Jannah from Netherlands will also give her singing experience sharing. Three faculties of Royal Conservatory Brussels - Fabien Degryse, Bart De Nolf and Thierry Gutmann, also the famous jazz musicians in Belgium, will bring along more interactions with the young musicians as previous years. Peter Van Marle further brings Latin music topics to the students and will lead more ensembles & rhythmic lessons. And Chi-pin Hsieh and Kai-ya Chang from Taiwan will integrate the piano, strings, ensembles & theory lessons to give the young musicians an even much more interesting academy.
